Mercedes G wheel weight and size. My investigation.

This winter I came across 2 issues on my G wagen: 1. Fuel consumption and 2. Slow acceleration.

The easiest solution to this – is to decrease wheel weight. But on decreasing it, the wheel height should be reasonable. So, here is what I found.

The heaviest wheel – is 16” on BFGoodrich 285/75/R16 – 47.3 kg. Fuel consumption 24l/100km

The second heavy wheel – is original AMG 18” on 285/60/R18 – 32.5 kg. Fuel consumption 20l/100km

The second heavy is original 18” on 265/60/R18 – 30.9 kg. Fuel consumption 20l/100km

The lightest is original 16” on 235/80/R16 – 27.5 kg. Fuel consumption 18l/100km

The total weight also depends on the tire weight. For example, the same original 16” wheel with 255/65/R16 offroad tire can weight more.
